DAY 115 TO 117 (06.28.13 - 06.30.13): ALTSTADT FEST & THE AMAZING RACE!
(PHOTOS BY BAILEY WELLS & COLLEEN IRELAND)
After the trip to London and Dublin, I spent the rest of the month working on school work.. I had to finish EVERYTHING before July 11th because I was leaving to Italy on the 12th. So I spent many late nights completing my work, and I'm glad I did! My roommates were leaving the flat to me for about a week or so because they were starting their bike tour from Germany to Italy on July 1st. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!? They are crazy, but extremely inspiring. This weekend was the Altstadt Festival in Trier. Originally I wasn't planning on going out because I had so much work to complete, but I did go and it was totally worth it. The entire city center was filled with people from all over and there were about seven or so live performances scattered throughout. IT WAS AWESOME! I don't go to festivals very often and Germans seem to love it. There were carnival rides, yummy food & drinks, games, and more. The atmosphere was great. I was even able to get a great tasting burrito.. I was proud of the Germans lol. Usually Mexican food is hard to come by and I don't even like Mexican food! Anyway, I really enjoyed the experience of a festival. It lowered my stress and cleared my mind, so when I went back to design work I wasn't all tense and anxious.
The final day of the festival was Trier's half marathon! Shannon and Mitch were taking part in this, so of course Bailey and I had to support them! I ended up spending the night at Bailey's because I was dumb and forgot my keys at home! This is the first time I've ever forgotten my keys since I've been in Trier! I couldn't go home because it was very late.. say.... midnight to 1AM or so and Stefan had work in the morning and Mitch had to sleep for his race. Luckily, I caught up with Bailey in time and she let me sleep over :) Thanks Bailez. The next morning I didn't want to get up, but I didn't want to stay at Bailey's place without her.. So I ended up going to cheer for the race. We didn't catch Mitch at the finish line because he is too quick for us. We almost missed Shannon, but Bailey spotted her. We didn't know what she was wearing and the finish line was suddenly being crowded with people. Someone should have regulated this; as the runners were finishing they had nowhere to rest, stop, fall down, sit down, or anything because it was so crowded. I felt kind of bad for the last group of runners.. I saw one girl throw up, but it was all water. I also saw a bunch of kids running this event and really felt bad because I don't think I can even run that much! I hope to one day start running though.. I would run the 5k race, but right now I am so broke... so maybe in a couple of months? My first run I will have to send a photo to my roommates. Anyone want to run with me?
DAY 122 (07.05.13): A DAY TRIP TO COCHEM
One of the places Bailey and I wanted to see was a small town near Trier called Cochem. We had a day trip to visit the castle and hang around the city. We did a tour within the castle and afterwards ate outside at a restaurant. Out of spontaneity, we decided to take a boat ride down the Mosel. My contacts scratched my corneas, so my eyes were in a ton of pain. I was miserable because of it, but I really enjoyed Cochem even though it was small. It was very charming.
DAY 118 TO 128 (07.01.13 - 07.11.13): FOURTH OF JULY & OTHER EVENTS!
During this time all the days jumbled together. I'm not really sure of anything that went on except I was definitely working hard on my projects, and I tried my best to balance going out with it too. On Independence Day, I hosted a BBQ at my flat because by now my roommates started their bike tour and the place was all mine. I didn't really take pictures, so all of these photos are from Bailey and Colleen (thanks guyz). The food was amazing, and I'm glad everyone helped out! For all my friends who liked my little mixed concoction, I have the recipe that I made up right here :)
Independence Juice (I don't know, it needed a name!):
1 cup of Amaretto Liquor
1 cup of Pineapple Juice
Chopped Pineapple chunks
Slices of Lime
Slices or Lemon
and I think that is it! If I remember what else I put in it, I'll let you know. You put in however much you want and it will taste great! Besides the BBQ, I went out to a club once, and it was the hottest place I've ever been in. I had rivers flowing down my arms! We couldn't stay too long because it was so hot... Also joined a few picnics and went out to eat with other Erasmus students as a goodbye dinner :( It was sad, but nice. There was also an end of the year Luxembourg mini party thing.... We had to turn in our work again and they bribed us to come to the design building with some yummy crepes.
